2020 Ford Explorer XLT

Notes from the dealer
Drivers who crave a responsive, communicative ride will find the Explorer XLT matches their expectations. This is the rare SUV that rewards active participation, making routine commutes or spirited weekend drives equally compelling. Features like heated seats, dual zone climate control, and a twin panel moonroof elevate comfort without overshadowing the tactile joy of driving. For those navigating the varied seasons of eastern Iowa, the 4WD system and heated steering wheel provide confidence and warmth, blending enthusiasm with all-weather practicality.
Performance is the core of this SUVâs appeal. The 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission, offering quick, almost seamless shiftsâ"especially in manual mode, where gear changes are crisp and satisfying. The steering communicates road texture, staying light at parking speeds but firming up as pace increases, instilling trust on twisty sections or highway sweepers. Brake feel is progressive, with strong initial bite and consistent modulation, so you can trail-brake into curves or stop confidently in city traffic. The chassis resists roll, settling quickly after bumps and rewarding precise inputs, making the Explorer notably agile for its class.
Safety systems are seamlessly integrated to enhance driver confidence rather than intrude. Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control intervene smoothly if you push the limits, letting you explore the chassis with reassurance. Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Keep Assist act like an attentive co-driver, alerting but not overriding your control. Evasive Steering Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control offer support in unpredictable traffic, so you always feel in command, not sidelined by technology. The rear camera and reverse sensing system make tight maneuvers easy, further reducing stress without dulling engagement.
Equipment Group 202A and the Comfort Package add meaningful enhancements, such as ActiveX Captain's Chairs and heated first and second row seats, which cradle you during spirited drives or long road trips. The Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System and SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto keep vital information at your fingertips, minimizing distraction.
Compared to rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse RS and Honda Pilot Touring, the Explorer XLT stands out for its engaging steering and lively chassis tuning. While competitors often prioritize isolation and softness, this SUV strikes a rewarding balance between comfort and connection to the road.
Enthusiasts often ask if an SUV can truly be fun to driveâ"this Explorer answers with confident cornering, nuanced steering, and a responsive powertrain. In sport mode, the 10-speed transmission sharpens its responses, holding gears for optimal acceleration and downshifting promptly with each prod of the throttle. The steering offers real feedback, making back roads and on-ramps enjoyable rather than routine.

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas - 4.0
Served our family well!

Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did. - 5.0
2025 Ford Explorer Active, RWD

Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want.
