Notes from the dealer
Buyers comparing multiple midsize SUVs will find this model excels for active families and road-trippers who need adaptable seating and confident all-weather handling. The inclusion of second-row bucket seats and third-row bench seating means it fits both carpool and cargo needs without compromise. A non-smoker owner history adds peace of mind for those seeking a clean, well-kept cabin. In regions like eastern Iowa, where winter weather and long drives are common, the Explorer's 4WD and heated amenities deliver daily practicality.
While rivals like the Traverse emphasize V6 power, the Explorer's 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth acceleration, responsive handling, and efficiency that suits both city commutes and highway cruising. Its four-wheel independent suspension and speed-sensing steering provide composed dynamics, while the standard 4WD system ensures stability in challenging conditions, giving it a performance edge in everyday and adverse weather scenarios.
Safety is a clear strength, with standard features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and a Rear Camera included on this SUV, whereas some competitors require costly upgrades for similar tech. The SYNC 3 911 Assist emergency communication system further enhances peace of mind. The Explorer is also equipped with ABS brakes, Traction Control, and multiple airbags, offering a robust layer of protection for all passengers.
The Equipment Group 202A package brings heated ActiveX captain's chairs, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, power liftgate, and a 12-speaker audio system. Tech conveniences such as SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot keep drivers connected and comfortable. Every detail, from the acoustic-laminated front side windows to the power-adjustable front seats, is designed to create a refined, user-friendly cabin environment.
Compared to the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot, the Explorer XLT offers more standard safety features and advanced cabin tech at a similar price point. Its 4WD system provides an advantage in challenging climates, and the flexible three-row layout adapts more easily to mixed passenger and cargo needs. This competitive edge makes it a leader among family-focused SUVs where reliability and modern features matter most.
Shoppers often ask why the Explorer XLT stands out; the answer is its combination of standard 4WD, comprehensive safety tech, and convenience features like heated seats and remote start that others require add-ons for. It offers advanced smartphone integration through SYNC 3, a versatile seating layout, and a clean, non-smoker interiorâ"all without the premium upcharge found in many rivals. For those weighing overall value, real-world usability, and everyday comfort, this SUV consistently emerges as the top pick.

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas - 4.0
Served our family well!

Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did. - 5.0
2025 Ford Explorer Active, RWD

Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want.
