Performance in this SUV centers on a 2.4L I4 DGI DOHC Dual CVVT engine paired with a 6-speed automatic with Sportmatic mode. The throttle responds crisply, and the powertrain transitions smoothly between gears, with the Sportmatic function enabling manual gear selection for added control. Steering calibration offers a nice blend of effort and feedback, letting drivers place the vehicle precisely on twisty roads. Four-wheel independent suspension and anti-roll bars at both ends deliver a planted feel, while the brake pedal offers linear, reassuring bite for confident stops, even under more enthusiastic driving conditions.
Safety systems on this Sorento are designed to build driver confidence rather than dilute it. Electronic Stability Control seamlessly intervenes only when truly needed, preserving the natural handling feel until traction or balance is at risk. ABS brakes and brake assist provide strong, progressive stopping power, while the rearview camera and rear parking sensors add to situational awareness when maneuvering. Lane-keeping systems are not present, but the core active safety equipment supports the driverâs sense of control rather than taking over, allowing the enthusiast to remain in command.
Feature highlights start with the EX trimâs heated leather front seats and dual-zone climate control, letting drivers stay comfortable while staying focused on the road. The leather shift knob and steering wheel further enhance tactile engagement, and the premium audio system with 12 speakers envelops the cabin in crisp, immersive sound. The reverse sensing system and rear camera streamline backing up, while split folding rear seats and a power driver seat ensure both versatility and all-day comfort for every journey. Keyless entry, automatic headlights, fog lights, and turn signal mirrors round out a package built for daily ease and driver enjoyment.
Compared to rivals like the Ford Edge and Toyota Highlander, the Sorento EX stands out for its communicative steering and agile chassis, making it more engaging on winding roads.
Enthusiast drivers often ask whether this SUV is truly engaging, and the answer is yesâ"the steering feel is natural, with a reassuring on-center groove and responsive turn-in. The 6-speed automaticâs Sportmatic mode offers quick, precise shifts, making it easy to downshift for passing or hold a gear through a series of curves. On twisty roads, the Sorento settles confidently, inspiring trust and delivering genuine enjoyment.

On Dec 23, 2024, I was in a traumatic car accident. My 2014 Kia Sorento was hit on the rear right passenger side and went through a guard rail into a riverbed. Long drop. Hit a wall. Car is 100% totaled. In addition to airbag, The seatbelts stayed in tact. The body of the vehicle in one piece. The tires did not tear. I have no fractures, broken bones, internal injuries. We had a 2011 sorento, new to sold, sold at 218,000 miles and there were no issues with it even then. Plenty of room, good fuel economy and a great set of features like Bluetooth, backup camera, and third row.
