With fuel prices projected to remain high through Memorial Day, everyone has become more conscious of their vehicle’s fuel economy. Even in times when gas prices are more reasonable, it’s important to choose a vehicle with greater efficiency to reduce your environmental impact and keep your cost of transportation down. Chevrolet has engineered the models in its lineup to offer outstanding fuel-saving features. From hybrid powertrains to aerodynamic designs, Chevrolet keeps the environment—and your wallet—in mind.

Variable Valve Timing

Chevrolet’s variable valve timing technology is used in many engine options to increase performance as well as fuel economy and efficiency. It works by altering the timing of the valves by shifting the phase angle of the camshaft. If that sounds like a bunch of jargon you don’t really care about, just know that VVT equals better efficiency. This technology is used throughout the Chevrolet lineup on most models.

Turbo Powertrains

Much like variable valve timing can improve efficiency, so can turbochargers. The application of turbochargers may have started with the desire for faster vehicles, but it has an extra benefit. By using a turbocharger, Chevrolet can use a smaller engine with less horsepower without creating a vehicle that feels sluggish. Small turbos provide the power you need to merge onto highways or pass another car but don’t drink fuel when you’re just driving normally. A great example is the Spark equipped with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. With 98 horsepower, you might expect this car to be slow, but this peppy hatchback is quick enough for easy city driving and amazing on fuel.

Hybrid & Electric Performance

Chevrolet wasn't late to the party when it came to hybrid and electric models. Today, the automaker offers several options, including the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV. For drivers who want a truck powered by a fully-electric powertrain, the highly-anticipated Silverado EV is in the making. It doesn't get much more fuel-efficient than that.
