Notes from the dealer
This SUV is tailored for buyers who prioritize cutting-edge connectivity and digital convenience in their daily routine. If you rely on your smartphone for navigation, music, or communication, the Escape SELâs robust suite of tech features ensures youâre always in sync, even during Iowaâs changing seasons or on family road trips. Its balance of comfort and technologyâ"heated ActiveX front seats, a heated steering wheel, and memory seat functionsâ"welcomes those who want an elevated, hassle-free driving experience that adapts seamlessly to busy, connected lifestyles.
A 1.5L EcoBoost engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission brings a modern, efficient powertrain to this Escape. The AWD system leverages electronic stability control and traction management, making for confident commuting in wet or snowy conditions. The drive is enhanced with selectable modes and digital throttle response, providing smooth transitions between city and highway driving. Smart engineering delivers an EPA-estimated 26 city and 31 highway MPG, so you can count on fewer stops and more time connected on the road.
Safety in the Escape SEL is driven by intelligent technology. The suite includes an exterior parking camera, automatic high-beam headlights, and SYNC 3 911 Assist, all geared toward helping you avoid hazards before they become problems. Electronic Stability Control and ABS work in real time, constantly processing road conditions and adjusting braking and traction. Sensors monitor tire pressure and occupant positions, while airbags are strategically placed to maximize protection. Together, these systems use advanced processing to actively keep you and your passengers safer.
The Equipment Group 301A package brings a wealth of features designed for a tech-forward lifestyle. The heated front sport contour bucket seats and heated steering wheel ensure comfort in all seasons. The power liftgate and remote keyless entry simplify loading and access, while speed-sensitive wipers and dual-zone automatic climate control keep the cabin comfortable. Steering wheel audio controls, SiriusXM radio, and a comprehensive trip computer make every journey as convenient as possible, while the memory seat and power driver seat offer a personalized touch.
When comparing tech-savvy SUVs, the Escape SELâs SYNC 3 infotainment and 12-speaker audio system offer a compelling edge over the Toyota RAV4 XLE and Honda CR-V EX. Both competitors provide smartphone integration, but the Escapeâs intuitive voice controls and user-friendly interface stand out. Over-the-air updates and Fordâs focus on digital ecosystem compatibility mean the Escape adapts to evolving software standards, helping you stay connected in an increasingly digital world.
Does this SUV offer wireless CarPlay or Android Auto? The SYNC 3 system provides seamless wired integration, ensuring stable connectivity for all your apps. What driver-assist technologies does it include? Features like automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera, and electronic stability control are standard for confident driving.

Great performance highway/city/winters
by Ed S on 8/25/2026 4:16:53 PM
Got the '21 SEL Hybrid used, and it's felt like a steal. I was moving from the south to the northern midwest, and needed a car that could hold family of 4+gear, had good mileage, good handling and driving all seasons, and really preferred some creature comforts. 3 months after purchase, I had to take it on the big test of 3k+ mile trip into the Dakotas, ending in a winter storm the last 250 miles. It handled everything wonderfully, and in comfort. MPG dropped to the low-mid 30's when I was doing pure highway, jumped up to low 40's with combo city/highway. No idea what people are complaining about on engine straining/noise, this thing has handled everything from driving 80 along the highways to climbing a steep grade hill during a blizzard. No issues at all, the AWD is a great need for my winters, and it's more modern features work well. My assumption is those complaining of engine noise/issues have had poor maintenance. I've kept up with mine very diligently, and have nice tires in place to help with winters here. The interesting positive is my year/model came with a map nav and sync as standard. So it has mapping/updating/etc all built in. But I never use it as I still prefer my phone Android Auto setup. Biggest complaint is it feels like there's just not quite enough space in the back, even when dropping the seats. You can fit luggage/hardware/gear in there, but you'll need to be creative. I ended up getting the roof rack as a fall-back for bigger things. - 5.0

Great SUV

Bought my car brand new February 2023. It’s a 2022 model sports package. Love the way it handles. rarely uses gas as I do mostly in town errands. Smaller than my previous Non plug-in Ford Escape, but actually like it that way. Backseat does fold down and plenty of rear cargo room.
