Notes from the dealer
Enthusiast drivers who look for more than just utility in their SUV will find the Explorer XLT compelling. The combination of a 10-speed automatic transmission and 4WD delivers responsive acceleration and confident maneuvering, whether navigating daily commutes or spontaneous weekend trips. In regions like Sw Mt Vernon, IA, where changing weather and long stretches of rural highway are routine, the Explorerâs drivetrain and suspension provide assurance and comfort, keeping drives rewarding in all seasons.
Performance is the Explorerâs central strength, with its 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 offering a surge of power that feels immediate yet refined. The 10-speed automatic shifts quickly and smoothly, adapting seamlessly to the driver's style and the roadâs demands. Steering has a balanced weight, neither too light nor artificially heavy, with the leather-wrapped wheel transmitting subtle but useful feedback. The suspension, tuned for both composure and comfort, keeps the body level in corners and soaks up rough pavement without losing its sense of athleticism. Braking inspires confidence, with linear pedal feel that makes precise stops natural. The result is an SUV that is genuinely enjoyable to drive on a daily basis, rewarding those who notice the difference.
Safety systems in the Explorer XLT are engineered to enhance, not intrude on, the driving experience. Electronic Stability Control acts as a subtle safety net, intervening only when needed to keep the SUV composed during quick directional changes or slick road conditions. The Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ suite includes advanced features like SYNC 3 911 Assist and an exterior parking camera, providing reassurance when maneuvering in tight spaces or busy environments. Brake Assist and multiple airbags work in the background, so drivers can focus on the road ahead. Lane-keeping features, if present, are designed to supplement attentive driving and never detract from direct driver control.
The XLT trim offers a thoughtfully curated set of features designed to amplify daily enjoyment. The Comfort Package includes dual-zone automatic temperature control, power-adjustable heated seats, and Unique Cloth Captain's Chairs for a tailored fit. SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration puts navigation and entertainment at your fingertips, while the 12-speaker audio system envelops the cabin in rich sound.
Stacked against rivals like the Honda Pilot and Chevrolet Traverse, the Explorer distinguishes itself with more responsive steering and a powertrain that offers a gratifying blend of efficiency and performance. Its 4WD system gives it a composure thatâs hard to match when roads turn slick or uneven.
How comfortable is the Explorer XLT for long drives? The suspension tuning and supportive captainâs chairs deliver a relaxed, fatigue-free experience over hours of highway travel. Does the powertrain feel responsive in traffic? The 2.3L EcoBoost and 10-speed automatic combine for immediate, confident acceleration, making merging and passing effortless.

Love it.

Single guy looking for a vehicle that is fun to drive but can haul junk too, and this fits the bill. I came from a 2018 Lincoln MKZ 3.0t AWD, this has all the same features but this does it better. Mine had one minor panel issue the dealership is fixing, but otherwise everything is solid. Installed a BOV, I find it funny to blow past people with a quiet exhaust and a loud Spanish sound as they disappear into the distance. Fantastic nighttime viability over the lower trims. Actually just better over all than the lower trims. Bolt ons and a tune just puts this in its own league for the price you pay, the only thing that comes close is a 2026 dodge Durango RT 392. ST is not for everyone but it is for me. "Sporty" family hauler my butt. Wrong demographic. This is a genuine fast mid-sized SUZ that you'd have to go luxury to get close to the performance numbers otherwise. - 5.0

I love the suv its fantastic to drive only issue I have is the wind noise in the driver seat but I'd sleep in it every night the seats are comfortable.
