Notes from the dealer
Drivers who crave a connection to the roadâ"those who notice a vehicleâs precise response in a highway merge or the calm assurance over rough patchesâ"will find the Escape Active calibrated for satisfaction. Its four-wheel independent suspension and tuned anti-roll bars let the SUV track straight and true on open interstates and provide the feedback enthusiasts appreciate on spirited backroads. In regions where seasons turn quickly, such as Iowa, the AWD system inspires extra confidence and unlocks year-round enjoyment, making this SUV a trusted companion for both daily drives and spontaneous getaways.
Performance in this Escape Active centers on the 1.5L EcoBoost engine, which pairs lively turbocharged response with the seamless shifts of an 8-speed automatic. Throttle mapping is tuned for crisp engagement off the line, with enough reserve for decisive passing. The steering is speed-sensitive and delivers reassuring heft as velocity builds, communicating subtle road texture through the wheel without becoming harsh. The suspension absorbs imperfections without wallowing, while the brakes offer firm, progressive pedal feel that builds confidence whether in stop-and-go traffic or quick stops on winding roads. This combination elevates routine journeys into something you look forward to.
Safety systems in the Escape Active are engineered to enhance, not override, the driver's role. Electronic Stability Control provides subtle corrections only when the limit is reached, maintaining composure in quick maneuvers. Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go adapts to traffic seamlessly, letting the driver relax without feeling isolated from the driving task. Lane-keeping features offer gentle guidance to keep the SUV centered, but never intrude on steering feel. Reverse Brake Assist and the rear parking camera support tight city parking, while the speed sign recognition ensures youâre always aware of changing limitsâ"all enabling confident and enthusiastic driving.
A suite of purposeful features defines the Escape Activeâs appeal, with the Tech Pack #2 bringing Connected Built-In Navigation for real-time guidance and a 12-speaker audio system for immersive sound. Heated front seats, heated mirrors, and dual-zone automatic climate control create comfort in any season. Steering wheel-mounted controls and a power driver seat allow quick adjustment without breaking driving focus.
Against rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the Escape Active stands out for its driver-centric tuning and engaging chassis feel. Where some competitors prioritize isolation, this SUV offers a livelier steering response and more tactile feedback, inviting the driver to enjoy every mile.
How comfortable is the Escape Active for long drives? The suspension soaks up expansion joints and rough pavement, keeping fatigue at bay. What helps in winter or rain? The AWD system, heated seats, and heated mirrors maintain traction and visibility in challenging weather. Is the infotainment system intuitive? SYNC 4 with navigation and steering wheel controls create a distraction-free, seamless experience.

Great performance highway/city/winters
by Ed S on 8/25/2026 4:16:53 PM
Got the '21 SEL Hybrid used, and it's felt like a steal. I was moving from the south to the northern midwest, and needed a car that could hold family of 4+gear, had good mileage, good handling and driving all seasons, and really preferred some creature comforts. 3 months after purchase, I had to take it on the big test of 3k+ mile trip into the Dakotas, ending in a winter storm the last 250 miles. It handled everything wonderfully, and in comfort. MPG dropped to the low-mid 30's when I was doing pure highway, jumped up to low 40's with combo city/highway. No idea what people are complaining about on engine straining/noise, this thing has handled everything from driving 80 along the highways to climbing a steep grade hill during a blizzard. No issues at all, the AWD is a great need for my winters, and it's more modern features work well. My assumption is those complaining of engine noise/issues have had poor maintenance. I've kept up with mine very diligently, and have nice tires in place to help with winters here. The interesting positive is my year/model came with a map nav and sync as standard. So it has mapping/updating/etc all built in. But I never use it as I still prefer my phone Android Auto setup. Biggest complaint is it feels like there's just not quite enough space in the back, even when dropping the seats. You can fit luggage/hardware/gear in there, but you'll need to be creative. I ended up getting the roof rack as a fall-back for bigger things. - 5.0

40 mpg city, 30+ mpg highway. Great acceleration and comfort. Can't be beat for it's low ticket price! - 5.0
Great SUV

Bought my car brand new February 2023. It’s a 2022 model sports package. Love the way it handles. rarely uses gas as I do mostly in town errands. Smaller than my previous Non plug-in Ford Escape, but actually like it that way. Backseat does fold down and plenty of rear cargo room.
