Notes from the dealer
Analytical buyers prioritizing features per dollar will appreciate the Escape Activeâs approach to value. For those comparing spec sheets, this SUVâs Cold Weather Package, power driver seat, and SYNC 4 911 Assist emergency system are included in the base package rather than buried in costly upgrades. This makes it especially appealing for drivers in regions like eastern Iowa, where harsh winters and changing weather demand AWD and heated features without paying a premium.
Performance in the Escape Active is engineered for cost-effectiveness without compromise. The 1.5L EcoBoost engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission provides smooth, responsive driving that balances everyday usability with fuel efficiency, achieving an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Owners benefit from strong AWD traction for challenging road conditions, while the optimized powertrain reduces fuel expenses compared to larger, less efficient SUVs. Maintenance costs are kept reasonable, with Ford's proven engine design and widely available parts supporting long-term ownership value.
Standard safety equipment is a core part of the Escape Activeâs value story. Rather than offering essential safety features as pricey add-ons, this SUV includes ABS brakes, electronic stability control, a rearview camera, dual front and side impact airbags, a knee airbag, and SYNC 4 911 Assist. These features collectively enhance everyday safety and peace of mind, making the Escape a strong choice for families who want comprehensive protection without navigating trim packages or hidden costs.
The Escape Active comes equipped with a suite of comfort and utility features that maximize value. The included Cold Weather Package delivers added convenience with features designed for tough conditions, while the advanced audio system, power liftgate, and split folding rear seat simplify loading cargo or adapting the interior for passengers. Unique cloth front bucket seats, power steering, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls further enhance the daily driving experience, all standard for this trim without requiring costly option bundles.
Comparing the Escape Active to the Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota RAV4 highlights its competitive edge in standard equipment. While rivals often reserve power liftgates, advanced infotainment, and dual-zone climate control for higher trims, the Escape incorporates these features at the Active trim level. Fordâs certified warranty coverage and transferable benefits further contribute to its strong value proposition, maximizing owner confidence and resale potential.
What is included as standard equipment? The Escape Active offers AWD, 1.5L EcoBoost, power liftgate, Cold Weather Package, SYNC 4, and a comprehensive suite of airbags. Is this SUV worth the price? Given its standard features, efficiency, and certification benefits, it delivers excellent value. Which trim is the best value? The Active trim blends desirable options with affordability, avoiding unnecessary extras.

Great performance highway/city/winters
by Ed S on 8/25/2026 4:16:53 PM
Got the '21 SEL Hybrid used, and it's felt like a steal. I was moving from the south to the northern midwest, and needed a car that could hold family of 4+gear, had good mileage, good handling and driving all seasons, and really preferred some creature comforts. 3 months after purchase, I had to take it on the big test of 3k+ mile trip into the Dakotas, ending in a winter storm the last 250 miles. It handled everything wonderfully, and in comfort. MPG dropped to the low-mid 30's when I was doing pure highway, jumped up to low 40's with combo city/highway. No idea what people are complaining about on engine straining/noise, this thing has handled everything from driving 80 along the highways to climbing a steep grade hill during a blizzard. No issues at all, the AWD is a great need for my winters, and it's more modern features work well. My assumption is those complaining of engine noise/issues have had poor maintenance. I've kept up with mine very diligently, and have nice tires in place to help with winters here. The interesting positive is my year/model came with a map nav and sync as standard. So it has mapping/updating/etc all built in. But I never use it as I still prefer my phone Android Auto setup. Biggest complaint is it feels like there's just not quite enough space in the back, even when dropping the seats. You can fit luggage/hardware/gear in there, but you'll need to be creative. I ended up getting the roof rack as a fall-back for bigger things. - 5.0

40 mpg city, 30+ mpg highway. Great acceleration and comfort. Can't be beat for it's low ticket price! - 5.0
Great SUV

Bought my car brand new February 2023. It’s a 2022 model sports package. Love the way it handles. rarely uses gas as I do mostly in town errands. Smaller than my previous Non plug-in Ford Escape, but actually like it that way. Backseat does fold down and plenty of rear cargo room.
