Notes from the dealer
Analytical buyers seeking a high-value, feature-dense midsize SUV will appreciate the Explorer XLTâs robust standard equipment list and 4WD capability. With integrated SYNC 3 infotainment (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto), heated steering wheel, remote start, and Class IV trailer tow package included, it targets those who compare spec sheets and demand more for their dollar. The Explorerâs three-row seating and upscale touches cater to families and commuters wanting premium amenities at a practical price point.
Under the hood, the SUV utilizes a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering strong performance for the price. The turbocharged engine offers a compelling power-to-price ratio, balancing responsive acceleration with efficiencyâ"owners can expect real-world savings at the pump compared to V6 rivals. Maintenance costs remain low due to the proven EcoBoost platform, and its 4WD system adds all-weather versatility without inflating base pricing.
Standard safety in the Explorer XLT is a clear value differentiator. Features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear View Camera, Intelligent Cruise Control, Electronic Stability Control, and full suite of airbags are included at no extra charge. Unlike competitors who often reserve these technologies for expensive packages, Ford equips the Explorer with active safety as baseline, reducing both risk and total cost of ownership for safety-minded buyers.
The XLT trim shines with the Equipment Group 202A and Sport Appearance Package, adding heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power liftgate, and ambient interior enhancements. The SUVâs tech suiteâ"SYNC 3 infotainment, 12-speaker premium audio, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and remote keyless entryâ"translates to a high-value ownership experience. Many rivals charge extra for towing features, but the included Class IV Trailer Tow Package expands utility at no premium.
Compared to the Honda Pilot EX-L and Toyota Highlander XLE, the Explorer XLT stands out by offering heated captainâs chairs, advanced driver aids, and trailer towing equipment as standard, while both competitors require optional upgrades for similar features. The Explorerâs turbocharged engine and 4WD system further enhance its value proposition by combining power and practicality without escalating base costs.
Standard equipment includes heated seats, leather interior elements, SYNC 3 with smartphone integration, blind spot monitoring, a power liftgate, and a Class IV towing package. The XLT trim is widely considered the sweet spot for value, delivering near-luxury features without a luxury price tag. Many amenitiesâ"like remote start and advanced safety techâ"that are cost-adds elsewhere are included here, making the Explorer a smart buy for value-focused shoppers.

Served our family well!
by Beth on 2/19/2026 11:46:55 PM
Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did. - 5.0
2025 Ford Explorer Active, RWD
by Matt on 1/14/2026 12:13:01 PM
Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want. - 4.0
