Old Capital Museum


Together, Old Capital Museum and the Museum of National History (next door in Macbride Hall) for the University of Iowa Pentracrest Museums. Old Capital Museum has been in operation since 1976. It is the only National Historic Landmark in Iowa City. Throughout its long history, the building has served as a seat of the territorial and state governments, a university building serving numberous schools and colleges, administrative office, and finally a museum.
