2017 Ford Explorer XLT
- Used
Notes from the dealer
Analytical buyers comparing spec sheets will appreciate how this Explorer XLT delivers more included comfort and safety tech than similarly priced SUVs. Features like dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, a heated steering wheel, and Driver Connect Package come standard, saving the cost of option bundles elsewhere. For families or commuters in the Sw Mt Vernon, IA area, itâs a practical solution that balances weather readiness with day-to-day usability, thanks to its 4WD and comprehensive feature set.
Performance value is clear with the standard 3.5L 6-cylinder SMPI DOHC engine paired to a 6-speed automatic with Select-Shift. This powertrain offers the kind of smooth, responsive driving thatâs rare at this equipment level and price point. Maintenance costs remain moderate due to proven mechanical durability, while the 4WD system provides secure handling in varied climates. Fuel economy is competitive for its class, with efficient power delivery for daily commuting and longer trips.
Standard safety technology is a major value highlight. The Explorer XLT includes Blind Spot Monitoring (BLIS), a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and a Forward Sensing Systemâ"all without requiring optional safety packages. Emergency communication via 911 Assist, ABS brakes, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, and brake assist are all included. Many of these features are optional or unavailable on base models from competing brands, making this SUV an especially smart safety investment.
Included packages like the Cold Weather Package and Driver Connect Package translate into real-world convenienceâ"heated front seats and steering wheel, remote start, and hands-free foot-activated liftgate all come standard. The Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System and SYNC 3 Communications & Entertainment System with 12 speakers boost everyday utility and entertainment, while the 3rd row split-bench allows for flexible cargo or passenger needs without extra cost.
Comparing value against segment rivals, the Explorer XLT delivers features that the Chevrolet Traverse LT and Honda Pilot EX typically offer as costly add-ons, such as heated front seats, navigation, and hands-free liftgate. While those models may match the Explorer on space or ride comfort, this SUVâs standard technology and advanced safety features at this price point provide a clear value advantage for buyers seeking the most for their investment.
Common questions focus on included equipment, value for price, and trim recommendations. This Explorer XLT comes loaded with comfort and safety features standard, avoiding the incremental costs seen on many competitors. Itâs worth the price for buyers who value technology, convenience, and safety in one package. The XLT trim, especially with Equipment Group 201A and the Technology Feature Bundle, represents the sweet spot for maximizing value without sacrificing quality or utility.

2016 was an extraordinary RUV as today, Battery changes yes, tires replacements of course, oil and filters every year with very special care. Strong motor with very good stability on curves and out road. Very well-build and features intrigate details. I would buy it again but hybrid. - 4.0
