2017 Ford Explorer XLT
- Used
Notes from the dealer
Enthusiasts seeking engagement in their daily drive will find the Explorer XLT receptive to their input, with a driver-focused cockpit and a leather-wrapped wheel that feels substantial in hand. Those who notice the difference between numb and responsive steering, or who crave a chassis that complements brisk commutes and weekend escapes, will appreciate its four-wheel independent suspension and communicative feedback. In regions with changing weather like Eastern Iowa, the 4WD system adds assurance for year-round enjoyment, letting drivers relish every season without sacrificing the fun-to-drive character.
Under the hood, it features a 3.5L V6 Ti-VCT engine mated to a 6-speed Automatic with Select-Shift, delivering crisp throttle response and seamless power delivery. Select-Shift enables manual gear selection, sharpening the drive for those who seek greater involvement, while the transmission responds with smooth, timely shifts in both automatic and manual modes. On open highways and twisty roads alike, the Explorer remains composed, settling quickly after bumps and tracking true through curves. Speed-sensing steering adjusts weight as speed increases, delivering a planted, confident feel from city streets to spirited backroad runs. Braking is progressive, with 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS instilling trust even during aggressive stops.
Active safety tech complements performance instead of numbing it. Electronic Stability Control intervenes subtly, stepping in only when traction is truly at risk, preserving the natural balance during spirited maneuvers. The BLIS Blind Spot Information System and Rear Parking Sensors add situational awareness, helping drivers push a little harder with confidence. Emergency Brake Assist and the Forward Sensing System work seamlessly in the background, ready to enhance control without intrusive corrections. Lane-keeping aids and the rearview camera provide extra reassurance, but never overshadow the driver's commandâ"making every drive as engaging as it is secure.
The XLT Technology Feature Bundle and Equipment Group 201A bring a suite of driver-centric features, including the SYNC 3 Communications & Entertainment System and Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System for intuitive, distraction-free operation.
Compared to segment rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot, the Explorer XLT distinguishes itself with more engaging steering feel and a sharper response to driver input.
Many ask if the Explorer XLT is truly engaging for daily drivesâ"it is, with a steering setup that feels direct and a suspension tuned for feedback without harshness. The Select-Shift transmission in sport mode holds gears confidently, allowing the driver to command the pace in the twisties.

2016 was an extraordinary RUV as today, Battery changes yes, tires replacements of course, oil and filters every year with very special care. Strong motor with very good stability on curves and out road. Very well-build and features intrigate details. I would buy it again but hybrid. - 4.0
