Notes from the dealer
Drivers who value genuine on-road engagement in their SUV will find the Explorer XLT especially appealing. The combination of 4WD confidence and responsive steering makes this vehicle ideal for those navigating changing Midwest weather or seeking a planted, assured feel on rural Iowa routes. Enthusiasts who test-drive multiple SUVs often notice the Explorerâs composed ride and its ability to keep the driver involved without sacrificing comfort for passengers, making each drive enjoyable whether itâs a solo commute or a weekend getaway with family.
Performance in the Explorer XLT is driven by its 3.5L 6-Cylinder SMPI DOHC engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring Select-Shift. Throttle response is smooth and predictable, allowing for confident acceleration when merging or passing. The transmission shifts unobtrusively, while Select-Shift mode offers manual control for those who want to tailor their drive. The chassis settles quickly after bumps, and speed-sensing steering delivers consistent feedback at all speeds, promoting a sense of stability through curves and on long highway stretches.
Safety features in this SUV are designed to complement an engaged driving experience rather than override it. Electronic Stability Control intervenes seamlessly to maintain composure in slick or abrupt maneuvers, while four-wheel disc brakes and ABS provide reassuring stopping power without excessive intrusion. Rear Parking Sensors and an exterior parking camera enhance low-speed confidence and awareness, letting drivers maintain focus on the road ahead. Emergency communication via 911 Assist and side-impact airbags round out the active safety suite without diminishing driver involvement.
The Explorer XLT is equipped for both comfort and utility, featuring black cloth seating, a split-bench third row, and power-adjustable driver and passenger seats for optimal driving position. The cabin is enhanced by a leather-wrapped steering wheel and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, keeping key functions at your fingertips. Rear air conditioning keeps passengers comfortable, while a 12-speaker audio system with AM/FM radio and SiriusXM ensures a rich sound experience. Remote keyless entry and security system features provide everyday convenience and peace of mind.
When compared with competitors like the Honda Pilot and Chevrolet Traverse, the Explorer distinguishes itself through its poised ride and steering feedback that rewards attentive drivers. While some rivals emphasize plushness or maximal space, this SUV achieves a rare harmony between comfort and genuine driver connection. The available 4WD system further sets it apart, delivering confidence through various road and weather conditions that others in the segment may struggle to match.
Is the Explorer XLT comfortable on long drives? Yesâ"the suspension tuning and supportive seating make extended highway travel relaxed without isolating you from the road. How does it perform in challenging weather? The 4WD drivetrain and stability systems inspire confidence whether rain or snow is in the forecast. Does it offer flexibility for families? With its split-folding rear seats and rear air conditioning, it adapts easily to passengers or cargo.
