Notes from the dealer
This SUV is well-suited for buyers who prioritize adaptability, safety, and comfort in their daily drive or family travels. The Explorer XLTâs spacious interior with 2nd row bucket seats and a 3rd row bench accommodates up to seven passengers, offering ample room for both passengers and gear. Features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and rear air conditioning ensure comfort through changing climates, which is especially relevant for drivers in the Sw Mt Vernon, IA region who experience variable Midwest weather.
Performance in the Explorer XLT is defined by the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine, which delivers a strong balance of power and efficiency. The 10-speed automatic transmission provides smooth, responsive gear changes, enhancing acceleration and highway cruising. With 4WD, the SUV maintains traction on slippery roads and moderate off-road paths, making it well-equipped for both city commutes and weekend adventures. The independent suspension and speed-sensing steering contribute to composed handling and a confident driving experience.
Safety is a highlight of this model, with a suite of advanced active features designed for real-world situations. Blind Spot Monitoring helps alert the driver to vehicles in adjacent lanes, while Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist work together to prevent unintentional lane drift. Adaptive Cruise and Intelligent Cruise control maintain set distances from traffic ahead, reducing driver fatigue on long trips. The rear camera and Reverse Sensing system simplify parking and help avoid obstacles, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds further driver assistance for peace of mind.
The Explorer XLT includes a comprehensive set of features, such as leather interior trim, navigation, SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium 12-speaker audio system. A twin panel moonroof brings in natural light, while the power liftgate allows for easy loading of groceries, sports equipment, or luggage. The Equipment Group 202A and Class III Trailer Tow Package expand the SUVâs functionality, supporting weekend getaways or utility needs. Convenience is reinforced with remote keyless entry, power adjustable seats, and automatic temperature control.
Comparing the Explorer to segment rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot, it stands out for its turbocharged EcoBoost engine and advanced safety technology. While the Traverse offers similar passenger space, the Explorerâs available 4WD and adaptive driver aids provide an edge in challenging weather and modern driving environments. Against the Pilot, the Explorerâs intuitive infotainment and flexible second-row seating appeal to families who value connectivity and interior versatility.
Key features of this SUV include a heated steering wheel, 2nd row bucket seats, SYNC 3 infotainment, navigation, adaptive cruise control, and a twin panel moonroof. In daily driving, the turbocharged engine and 10-speed transmission deliver responsive acceleration and efficiency, while 4WD ensures capability in rain or snow. Love it.
by Alex on 8/9/2026 11:55:02 PM
Single guy looking for a vehicle that is fun to drive but can haul junk too, and this fits the bill. I came from a 2018 Lincoln MKZ 3.0t AWD, this has all the same features but this does it better. Mine had one minor panel issue the dealership is fixing, but otherwise everything is solid. Installed a BOV, I find it funny to blow past people with a quiet exhaust and a loud Spanish sound as they disappear into the distance. Fantastic nighttime viability over the lower trims. Actually just better over all than the lower trims. Bolt ons and a tune just puts this in its own league for the price you pay, the only thing that comes close is a 2026 dodge Durango RT 392. ST is not for everyone but it is for me. "Sporty" family hauler my butt. Wrong demographic. This is a genuine fast mid-sized SUZ that you'd have to go luxury to get close to the performance numbers otherwise. - 5.0
