Notes from the dealer
Enthusiasts who seek more than just transportation will appreciate how this SUV rewards driver input, offering lively responses that make commutes and weekend drives genuinely enjoyable. The XLT trimâs supportive Unique Cloth Captain's Chairs and leather steering wheel enhance tactile feedback, ensuring every maneuver feels deliberate. In regions with changing seasons like Eastern Iowa, the standard 4WD system means you can confidently tackle slick roads or scenic backroads, extending driving enjoyment beyond summer months.
Engineered for those who crave involvement, the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 is tuned for responsive throttle input, providing brisk acceleration without hesitation. The 10-speed automatic impresses with its rapid, intuitive gear changesâ"especially noticeable in manual shift mode, where each upshift and downshift is delivered with minimal lag. Steering weight is perfectly calibrated for a sports coupe-like feel: light in parking lots, yet weighted on the move for precise placement. The four-wheel independent suspension settles the SUV confidently after abrupt lane changes or rough patches, while the brake pedal offers progressive, reassuring feedbackâ"ideal for spirited backroad runs or assertive city driving.
Safety aids enhance the performance ethos rather than undermine it. Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control work seamlessly in the background, allowing for spirited cornering before gently reigning in excesses. The Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ suite adds confidenceâ"features like Emergency Brake Assist and Lane Keeping System intervene smoothly, providing a safety net without dulling the tactile connection between driver and road. The exterior parking camera and speed-sensing steering further empower precise low-speed maneuvers, making urban driving and tight parking less stressful without intruding on the driverâs command.
Equipment Group 202A and the Class III Trailer Tow Package equip the Explorer XLT with versatile capability, while tech features like SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keep you connected and in control. Heated front seats and dual-zone automatic temperature control elevate comfort during spirited cold-weather drives. The power liftgate and remote keyless entry make loading up for a weekend getaway effortless, while the 12-speaker audio system offers immersive sound quality to match the dynamic drive. Unique Cloth Captainâs Chairs ensure support during energetic cornering.
Compared to rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse RS and Honda Pilot Special Edition, the Explorer XLT stands out for its sharper steering feel and more involving chassis.
Drivers often ask if the Explorer XLT is engaging on twisty roads, and the answer is yesâ"the chassis tuning and steering calibration deliver genuine fun in the curves. The 10-speed transmissionâs sport mode holds gears assertively, enabling quick acceleration out of corners. Steering feedback is natural, neither too light nor overly heavy, making the SUV predictable and responsive.

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas - 4.0
Served our family well!

Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did. - 5.0
2025 Ford Explorer Active, RWD

Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want.
