Notes from the dealer
Buyers who are comparing several SUVs for daily commuting, family hauling, or Midwest all-weather reliability will find the Edge SEL especially appealing. With its standard AWD, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control, itâs tailored for those who demand comfort and capability in changing conditions, such as harsh Iowa winters. Non-smoker ownership adds peace of mind for health-conscious drivers. This SUV is the right fit for shoppers who want advanced safety features, connectivity, and comfort without stepping into luxury-brand pricing.
When it comes to performance, the Edge SEL outpaces many competitors by pairing its EcoBoost 2.0L I4 GTDi DOHC Turbocharged VCT engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. While some rivals offer front-wheel drive as the base configuration, the Edge delivers enhanced traction and stability right from the start. Its turbocharged powertrain provides responsive acceleration and confident highway passing, all while maintaining EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 21 city and 28 highway MPG. For drivers seeking a smooth, composed ride and versatile handling in diverse road conditions, this SUV is engineered to deliver.
Active safety equipment is a strong suit for the Edge SEL, with features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and a rear camera included as standard. Where competitors may charge extra for these systems or limit them to upper trims, the Edge SEL places driver confidence front and center. Emergency communication through SYNC 4 911 Assist and Rear Parking Sensors offer additional reassurance during daily drives and crowded parking situations. The active safety suite directly addresses the needs of families and commuters who prioritize proactive protection on every journey.
Feature-rich packages set this SUV apart, including the Convenience Package, Equipment Group 201A, and FreeForm Sport Bucket Seats trimmed in ActiveX material. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel ensure comfort in cold weather, while dual-zone automatic climate control caters to both driver and passenger preferences. The 12-speaker audio system with SiriusXM 360L, automatic headlights, and power-adjustable front seats round out a cabin thatâs both tech-savvy and highly accommodating. All features are seamlessly integrated for a premium driving experience without unnecessary complexity.
Compared to the Chevrolet Blazer and Honda Passport, the Edge SEL provides a superior blend of standard AWD capability, active safety features, and upscale cabin appointments. Where the Blazer may offer bold styling and the Passport touts ruggedness, the Edge SEL excels at delivering a refined interior and advanced tech at a highly competitive price point. This makes it a compelling choice for buyers seeking all-around value and dependability in the midsize SUV segment.
Why choose the Edge SEL over competitors? Its standard AWD and turbocharged engine outmatch many rivalsâ base offerings for everyday confidence and driving enjoyment. What does the Edge SEL offer that others donât? Standard heated front seats, an advanced active safety suite, and a non-smoker ownership history.

Best Auto in My 64 Years of Owning cars
by Anonymous Reviewer on 7/7/2025 11:35:47 AM
I love my edge! I bought this car in the end of 2018 and have owed it for over 6 years. NO repairs needed. I am so happy not to have had it tied up for repairs as I am a REALTOR and drive part of every day. The only thing I have had done have been service. Keeping up with oil changes is so necessary. Oh, and I did replace the tires once.
