The 2024 Ford Explorer XLT immediately stands out among midsize SUVs like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot by combining a proven one-owner history, robust 4WD capability, and a refined interior with real-world practicality.

Shoppers comparing the Explorer to top choices in the segment typically juggle needs like confident all-weather driving, space for families, and advanced tech. The XLT trim answers these needs with standard heated ActiveX captain’s chairs, third-row seating, and a Twin Panel Moonroof, making it especially appealing for families or commuters in regions with variable climates such as Sw Mt Vernon, IA. The vehicle’s one-owner, non-smoker history further solidifies its appeal for those who value trust and vehicle longevity, while modern features like Navigation and SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto make it a practical upgrade over less-equipped alternatives.

Performance-wise, while competitors may offer V6 engines or front-wheel drive setups, this SUV’s 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 and 10-speed automatic transmission deliver a balance of responsive power and efficiency, along with the all-conditions assurance of 4WD. The Explorer’s EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway ensure fewer stops at the pump compared to many rivals. Its composed ride, thanks to four-wheel independent suspension and electronic stability control, means that whether you’re running errands or heading out on a road trip, you’ll appreciate the smooth, confident handling often missing from bulkier, less agile segment competitors.

In terms of safety, the Explorer XLT makes a compelling case by including features such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise, and a Rear Camera as standard equipmentâ€"features that are optional or cost extra on several competitors. The inclusion of emergency communication via SYNC 3 911 Assist and auto high-beam headlights further enhances peace of mind. ABS brakes, electronic stability control, and multiple airbags work together to provide a comprehensive shield of active safety, positioning this SUV as a leader in proactive driver assistance and accident avoidance technology.

This Explorer is equipped with the XLT Sport Appearance Package, bringing a distinctive look and practical comfort to the cabin. Standard features include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, Navigation, and a power liftgate, all designed for ease of use and daily practicality. The interior’s Ebony/Light Slate color scheme with heated ActiveX captain’s chairs offers both durability and sophistication. Entertainment and connectivity are seamless with a 12-speaker system, SiriusXM radio, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, ensuring every journey is enjoyable and connected.

Against competitors like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot, the Explorer XLT offers a stronger blend of advanced safety tech and upscale interior appointments at a comparable price point. Unlike some rivals that charge extra for features like Blind Spot Monitoring or Adaptive Cruise, these come standard here.

Why choose the Explorer XLT over alternatives? It delivers standard features like heated seating, Navigation, and advanced active safety, while many segment rivals reserve these for higher trims or options. What does it offer that others don’t? A one-owner, non-smoker history paired with a refined cabin and technology-rich experience.

      Explorer

by Rudy on 5/28/2026 6:10:36 PM

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas

      Served our family well!

by Beth on 2/19/2026 11:46:55 PM

Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did.
