The 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited is designed with growing families in mind, offering three spacious rows that easily accommodate car seats and provide flexible access for young children and older siblings alike. Its one-owner, non-smoker history adds peace of mind, while the Magnetite Gray Metallic exterior paired with a Slate Black leather interior delivers a refined, family-friendly environment for daily routines and weekend adventures.

Parents seeking a capable family SUV will appreciate the Ascent’s thoughtful layout and comfort features. With 2nd row bucket seats and a third-row bench, it offers generous space for school carpools or multi-child families. Locally owned and maintained, this SUV fits well into the active lifestyle of Eastern Iowa, handling unpredictable Midwest weather and family road trips, while the power liftgate simplifies loading strollers, sports gear, or groceries.

Under the hood, the Ascent is powered by a 2.4L 4-Cylinder DOHC 16V engine paired with a Lineartronic CVT, delivering smooth acceleration even when the cabin is full. Its all-wheel drive system ensures confident traction on wet or snowy roads, making it ideal for family outings during all seasons. The EPA-estimated 20 city and 26 highway MPG ratings help balance efficiency with the capability needed for family travel.

Safety is central to the Ascent’s design, providing parents with real peace of mind. It features a comprehensive suite of active safety equipment, including blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The rearview camera enhances visibility when backing out of tight spots, while Subaru’s STARLINK Safety and Security system adds connectivity for emergency assistance. Multiple airbags, a rear seat reminder, and LATCH points across rows ensure children and teens are well protected on every journey.

The Limited trim comes equipped with features that simplify family life, such as heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel for cold mornings, and dual-zone climate control to keep everyone comfortable. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support seamless connectivity for long drives. The 12-speaker audio system, moonroof, memory driver’s seat, and power passenger seat highlight its premium touches, while second-row bucket seats and a split-folding third row offer flexible cargo and seating configurations.

When compared to competitors like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, the Ascent stands out with standard all-wheel drive and robust safety technology across all trims. Its versatile seating arrangement and easy-access third row make it especially appealing for families who need both daily practicality and flexibility for longer trips. The one-owner, non-smoker history further increases its appeal as a high-value, trustworthy choice for family buyers.

How many car seats can fit in the Ascent? With three rows and accessible LATCH points, multiple car seats fit securely, making it suitable for families with babies and toddlers. Is it safe for kids and teens? Yes, advanced driver assistance features and comprehensive airbag coverage offer strong protection. Does it have a rear-seat reminder? This SUV includes a rear seat reminder system to help prevent items or children from being left behind. What warranty coverage is available? The Subaru powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles, transferable to subsequent owners for added confidence.

We have a 2022 Limited. It has been a great car with great options. It rides smoothly. It’s great in snow and ice. It has a lot of options for the price, and Subaru is always at the top of the list for safety.

      Great up to a point

      by Adam C on 3/24/2026 1:28:49 PM

We have a 2020 Ascent Limited. We like its features. Ride is a bit bumpy (my wife's term) and there can be more than a little road noise - but less than in the Outback we used to own. Engine is strong. Don't believe those who say the accelerator is "touchy". Mileage is good at 23 - 24. The only major issue was with the CVT at 125,000 miles. Dealer wanted $5000 to replace the torque converters. I contacted Subaru and they covered the full repair out of warranty. Bullet dodged. My advice is to trade it under 100,000 miles.

      The Great Ascent

by Dorrellkc on 1/30/2026 3:00:46 AM

If your looking for a big Forester then the Ascent is it. Gas mileage is more smiles per gallon vs anything reasonable. The third row comes in handy when needed, but don't expect to put full size adults in the third row for more than a couple of hours. The third row should be reserved for the kids. The radio is ok but it does lag from the initial startup of the car to pressing buttons which is a bit annoying and I wish that I could update the software to the new software that is in the 26 Outback. Even with all of that said, the Ascent fits our needs and we are happy with the AWD system and the overall handling. The Ascent is a joy to drive and has been very capable when needed. Keep up with the maintenance schedule and drive it like a normal human and the vehicle will treat you well.
