Notes from the dealer
Tech-forward families and professionals who depend on constant connectivity will appreciate what this SUV offers. The ability to sync your smartphone brings real-time navigation, messaging, and streaming right into the cabinâ"essential for busy mornings or cross-state road trips. STARLINK integration enables app-based controls, while HomeLink garage door connectivity and a power liftgate simplify daily routines. In regions with variable climates, such as Iowa, the heated front and rear seats and heated steering wheel ensure comfort year-round, making this SUV a digital command center that adapts to both tech-driven and practical needs.
Driving the Ascent feels enhanced by technology at every turn. Its 2.4L 4-Cylinder DOHC 16V engine paired with a Lineartronic CVT delivers smooth acceleration, with the CVT adapting gear ratios to suit traffic or highway cruising. The all-wheel-drive system is electronically managed, delivering optimal grip in changing road conditions. Electronic stability control and selectable drive settings help tailor throttle response and road handling, so whether navigating city streets or unpredictable weather, the SUVâs tech-driven performance supports confident, efficient driving.
Smart safety is a priority in this model, leveraging sensors and digital processing for real-time protection. The STARLINK Safety and Security system (with subscription) offers emergency communication, while the exterior parking camera rear, blind spot detection, and auto high-beam headlights amplify driver awareness. Brake assist and ABS work in harmony with electronic stability control to adjust responses in milliseconds, helping prevent slips and collisions. Each digital safeguard is engineered to predict, alert, and respond faster than human reflexes, making commutes and family outings safer and less stressful.
The Limited trim brings a robust Technology Package to the table, featuring perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, memory seats, and a power liftgate for modern convenience. Dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air conditioning keep all passengers comfortable. Digital features like the auto-dimming rear-view mirror with approach light, HomeLink, and remote keyless entry streamline access and control. The inclusion of third-row seating and split folding seats enables flexible cargo and passenger configurations, supporting both daily commutes and weekend adventures.
Comparing its technology suite, the Ascentâs 8.0-inch touchscreen and comprehensive app integration outpace rivals like the Honda Pilot EX-L and Toyota Highlander XLE, both of which offer similar connectivity but fewer audio speakers and less intuitive smartphone mirroring.
Does this SUV have wireless CarPlay or Android Auto? The Ascent supports both platforms through STARLINK, allowing direct access to smartphone apps and services. What driver assistance technology is included? Features like blind spot detection, exterior parking camera, and auto high-beam headlights are integrated to support safer driving.

We have a 2022 Limited. It has been a great car with great options. It rides smoothly. It’s great in snow and ice. It has a lot of options for the price, and Subaru is always at the top of the list for safety. - 4.0
Great up to a point

We have a 2020 Ascent Limited. We like its features. Ride is a bit bumpy (my wife's term) and there can be more than a little road noise - but less than in the Outback we used to own. Engine is strong. Don't believe those who say the accelerator is "touchy". Mileage is good at 23 - 24. The only major issue was with the CVT at 125,000 miles. Dealer wanted $5000 to replace the torque converters. I contacted Subaru and they covered the full repair out of warranty. Bullet dodged. My advice is to trade it under 100,000 miles. - 5.0
The Great Ascent
by Dorrellkc on 1/30/2026 3:00:46 AM
If your looking for a big Forester then the Ascent is it. Gas mileage is more smiles per gallon vs anything reasonable. The third row comes in handy when needed, but don't expect to put full size adults in the third row for more than a couple of hours. The third row should be reserved for the kids. The radio is ok but it does lag from the initial startup of the car to pressing buttons which is a bit annoying and I wish that I could update the software to the new software that is in the 26 Outback. Even with all of that said, the Ascent fits our needs and we are happy with the AWD system and the overall handling. The Ascent is a joy to drive and has been very capable when needed. Keep up with the maintenance schedule and drive it like a normal human and the vehicle will treat you well.
