Dealer Notes
The 2025 Ford Ranger XL Crew Cab delivers outstanding value by including features that many competitors charge extra for, such as 4WD, a turbocharged EcoBoost engine, SYNC 4 connectivity, LED reflector headlamps, and a Trailer Tow Package as standard. With a focus on real utility and everyday comfort at an accessible price, buyers get a well-equipped midsize truck that stands out for value-conscious shoppers.
Analytical buyers prioritizing a strong feature-to-dollar ratio will appreciate this truckâs comprehensive standard equipment. Key inclusions like alloy wheels, black running boards, a 12-speaker audio system, and a full suite of safety features make it ideal for those who scrutinize spec sheets and compare against rivals. The XL trim bundles core work-ready and comfort features, ensuring youâre not paying extra for essentials.
This Ranger offers a compelling powertrain in its segment: the 2.3L EcoBoost I4 delivers turbocharged efficiency without sacrificing torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic for smooth shifting and optimal fuel management. Its 4WD and 3.73 axle ratio provide strong towing potential, while maintenance costs remain reasonable. Compared to similarly-priced trucks, the power-to-price ratio is excellent, with fuel savings over V6 alternatives.
Safety value is evident with this pickupâs standard features, including electronic stability control, ABS, dual front and side impact airbags, and Fordâs SYNC 4 911 Assist for emergency communication. Auto high-beam headlights and a tire pressure monitoring system further enhance peace of mind. Unlike rivals, these active safety systems are included without the need for costly upgrade packages.
Standard equipment on the Ranger XL extends to air conditioning, power windows and locks, speed-sensing steering, remote keyless entry, and a rear step bumper for added utility. The STX Fender Badge, cloth front bucket seats, and 17-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels offer both style and function. The integrated Trailer Tow Package and black running boards are included, while others often require premium trims to access similar gear.
Directly compared to the Toyota Tacoma SR and Chevrolet Colorado WT, the Ranger XL includes 4WD, advanced infotainment, and towing hardware as standard, while competitors often reserve these features for higher trims or charge extra. This truck maximizes utility and comfort at a base price, reinforcing its position as one of the smartest choices in the midsize truck segment for maximizing value.
Standard equipment includes key safety tech, power windows, alloy wheels, and a 12-speaker system. The XL trim is the best value, offering core features without unnecessary extras. Buyers get 4WD and a turbo engine as standard, while rivals make these options. Many features bundled here would require expensive upgrades on the Tacoma or Colorado.

Cold weather reliability issues
By Ranger regret | on Thursday, January 08, 2026
I purchased a new 4x4 base model Ranger XL STX with the legendary and reliable 2.3L engine. At delivery, the truck would not start and required assistance before I could take it home. Shortly after, I experienced repeated cold-weather issues including loss of power steering assist, dashboard resets, and charging ports not functioning. The electronic steering system behaved unpredictably in cold temperatures, making the vehicle difficult to control. The following day the truck again failed to start. I contacted Ford customer service and was advised to pursue a buyback, but that process was later reversed. After a year of ownership and only 1,500 miles, the truck continues to have intermittent no-start and steering issues and is currently back at the dealership for diagnosis. I also learned that connected vehicle features require acceptance of extensive data-collection terms, which some buyers may want to review carefully. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this vehicle… - 5.0
Hard to explain, but is is definitely amazing
By SlinkTMP | on Saturday, January 25, 2025
I bought a used Ford Ranger Raptor with 2k miles on it. I was buying a new one but this had all the extra I would have put on the truck. This is an amazing and powerful truck and when you need the power, this vehicle has it. You will be at the gas station more, but the ride is worth it. The view in the truck for driving is amazing as you feel like you are sitting above everything but because it is a mid-size, it is nimble. If you want a fun truck, this is it. It is a Raptor that is 30k less than the Bronco and F-150. It is also top of the line and 10 K less than the Tacoma and Colorado, with a 6 cylinder.… - 5.0
Best midsize truck
By Soultilt | on Wednesday, July 30, 2025
This truck stock truly is a Swiss Army knife it will do everything at a high level will it be the best no but its versatility is unmatched. The F150 and Bronco raptor are awesome in their own rights but gigantic on the streets and hard to fit on tight trails. The nimbleness of the Ranger Raptor allows you to daily drive, rock crawl blast thru the desert all at the same time for a very reasonable price compared to the competition. Ford nailed it with the Ranger Raptor.…
