Dealer Notes
The 2026 Ford Explorer ST-Line stands out in the midsize SUV class by combining segment-leading driving technology, standard active safety features, and versatile interior design, making it a smarter choice than the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Its 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine delivers strong performance while advanced connectivity and comfort features come standard, giving buyers a superior blend of power, convenience, and value.
Shoppers evaluating the Explorer alongside the Highlander, Pilot, or Telluride will appreciate its blend of sporty design, standard 4WD, and advanced in-cabin tech. Itâs especially compelling for active families needing three-row flexibility, drivers who want confident all-weather traction, or anyone seeking a well-equipped, high-value SUV with a unique performance edge and upscale amenities in every drive.
While the Pilot offers V6 power and the Highlander emphasizes efficiency, the Explorerâs 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 balances both with 300 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 20/27 city/highway MPG. The smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission ensures responsive acceleration, while standard 4WD and independent suspension provide superior handling and confident control in varied driving conditions.
Active safety is a clear advantage for the Explorer, where features like ABS, electronic stability control, rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, and 911 Assist are standard, while competitors often reserve some for higher trims. Auto high-beam headlights and lane-keeping support add reassurance, and multiple airbagsâ"front, side, knee, and overheadâ"enhance occupant protection throughout all three rows.
Inside, this SUVâs Premium and Street Pack upgrades bring heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, panoramic glass roof, navigation, 10-speaker premium audio, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and second-row captainâs chairs with E-Z Entry. Features such as a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate, and remote keyless entry make everyday use more convenient than many rivals in its class.
Against the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, the Explorer offers a sportier drive, higher base horsepower, and more advanced standard tech. While competitors provide reliable alternatives, this modelâs turbocharged engine, 4WD, and rich feature set deliver a higher level of everyday versatility and driving enjoyment, making it a smarter long-term investment for families and adventurers alike.
Buyers often ask why the Explorer is preferable to the Highlander or Pilot. The answer is its unique combination of turbocharged performance, standard 4WD, and advanced tech at every trim. Features like a panoramic roof and heated steering wheel are standard here but cost extra elsewhere. Its flexible seating, powerful EcoBoost engine, and advanced safety help it stand out as the best-value choice among top midsize SUVs.

By Bruce Potter | on Monday, February 27, 2023
Transmission broke at 17000 took 3 months to get parts for rebuild, defrost strips coming off rear glass, replaced , fix rear camera twice, cracked catalytic converter left side, be nice car if I could keep it out of shop. So warranty has covered everything. Fun to drive, impressed with performance.… - 1.0
Another hacked together vehicle at a high cost
By AGlover | on Tuesday, July 05, 2022
Started with paneling popping off at Less than 5k miles, then the window became stuck in the down position, 2 hours at the dealer from them to just get it back up and tell us the post won’t be in for awhile, now the radio isn’t working. Every mechanical malfunction came with Parts that were scorching hot to the touch when trying to troubleshoot. It’s at 11500 miles, owned since March and have regretted it since.… - 4.0
3rd Explorer and still happy
By NoHo | on Wednesday, September 08, 2021
This is my third Explorer and I still love it. I drive about 25,000 a year with a heavy foot and typically drive my cars to the ground. In 4 months I’ve owned it, I already put 12,000 miles and fortunately zero issues, it’s swerving capabilities are still good, I enjoy the assisted driving, the sound from the speakers are clean and clear. It’s actually pretty quiet.…
