2023 Ford Explorer XLT

Notes from the dealer
This SUV is especially attractive to analytical buyers who compare features line by line. Itâs ideal for families or individuals who want comprehensive convenience, safety, and tech features without the premium of luxury brands. The Explorer XLT includes a third row, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated seats as standardâ"features that budget-conscious shoppers frequently seek and often find missing from competitorsâ base trims.
Performance-wise, the Explorerâs 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 delivers a notable 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and 4WD for confident all-weather driving. This powertrain offers a compelling power-to-price ratio, outpacing many base midsize SUVs. The EcoBoostâs efficiency also translates to lower annual fuel costs, while the proven Ford four-cylinder design reduces long-term maintenance expenses compared to V6 rivals.
In terms of safety value, the Explorer comes standard with active features including blind spot detection, lane keeping system, rearview camera, auto high-beam headlights, and emergency communication (SYNC 3 911 Assist). Unlike competitors that reserve these for higher trims or packages, it includes them up front, enhancing occupant protection and reducing the need for costly add-ons. Evasive steering assist and intelligent adaptive cruise further bolster safety confidence.
The XLT trimâs Equipment Group 202A brings heated front seats, remote start, a heated steering wheel, power passenger seat, and voice-activated navigation as standard. The Class IV Trailer Tow Package expands utility, while features like acoustic-laminated windows and rear air conditioning elevate comfort. SYNC 3 infotainment, SiriusXM radio, and 12 speakers are all included, providing excellent connectivity and audio value without requiring optional upgrades.
Against competitors like the Honda Pilot EX and Toyota Highlander LE, the Explorer XLT includes more standard safety and tech at a comparable or lower price. While rivals often charge extra for heated seats, navigation, or advanced driver assists, this SUV delivers those features without hidden costs. The Explorerâs robust turbo engine and third-row versatility further enhance its value advantage over these alternatives.
Standard equipment includes heated captainâs chairs, remote start, SYNC 3 navigation, and a full suite of active safety tech. The Explorer XLT stands out as a strong value, with the XLT trim typically offering the best blend of features and price. Many features, like adaptive cruise and heated steering wheel, are included here but cost extra on competitors, making the Explorer a smart buy for feature-focused shoppers.

Served our family well!
by Beth on 2/19/2026 11:46:55 PM
Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did. - 5.0
2025 Ford Explorer Active, RWD

Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want. - 4.0
