Notes from the dealer
Shoppers evaluating the Explorer against rivals will appreciate its blend of comfort, technology, and proven reliability. Itâs ideal for active families, commuters, and adventurers who need three rows, standard 4WD, and modern connectivity. The Explorerâs heated captainâs chairs and advanced driver aids make it particularly attractive for those prioritizing safety and all-weather assurance.
Performance in the Explorer is defined by its 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. While competitors like the Pilot opt for naturally aspirated V6s, this SUVâs turbocharged setup delivers robust torque and efficient power, benefiting acceleration and towing. Standard 4WD provides added confidence in challenging driving conditions, surpassing alternatives that treat AWD as optional.
Safety is a highlight where the Explorer excels, making key features standard that others reserve for higher trims. Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and a Rear Camera come included, offering peace of mind without upcharges. Unlike some rivals, it provides SYNC 3 911 Assist and active stability control as default, ensuring tech-driven protection for every trip.
Included features benefit owners in everyday scenarios. The Explorerâs heated front seats and steering wheel enhance winter comfort, while dual-zone climate control and rear air conditioning keep all passengers satisfied. The power liftgate simplifies cargo loading, and SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto ensures seamless smartphone integration. The Class IV Trailer Tow Package adds genuine utility for trips and recreation.
Compared to the Honda Pilot and Chevrolet Traverse, the Explorer emphasizes value through its turbocharged engine and standard safety suite. While competitors may offer a V6, the Explorerâs EcoBoost delivers comparable power with better efficiency. Its interior flexibility and standard tech stand out, making it a more comprehensive choice for buyers seeking balanced performance and features.
Choosing the Explorer over other SUVs means prioritizing standard safety, turbocharged efficiency, and technology integration. Unlike some alternatives, it offers heated captainâs chairs and a power liftgate standard. For those seeking the best overall value, the Explorerâs proven reliability, durable 4WD, and everyday usability make it a segment leader. Its advantage over the Pilot and Traverse is clear in real-world features and flexibility.

Transmission
by Bruce Potter on Monday, February 27, 2023
Transmission broke at 17000 took 3 months to get parts for rebuild, defrost strips coming off rear glass, replaced , fix rear camera twice, cracked catalytic converter left side, be nice car if I could keep it out of shop. So warranty has covered everything. Fun to drive, impressed with performance. - 1.0
Another hacked together vehicle at a high cost
by AGlover on Tuesday, July 05, 2022
Started with paneling popping off at Less than 5k miles, then the window became stuck in the down position, 2 hours at the dealer from them to just get it back up and tell us the post won’t be in for awhile, now the radio isn’t working. Every mechanical malfunction came with Parts that were scorching hot to the touch when trying to troubleshoot. It’s at 11500 miles, owned since March and have regretted it since. - 4.0
3rd Explorer and still happy
by NoHo on Wednesday, September 08, 2021
This is my third Explorer and I still love it. I drive about 25,000 a year with a heavy foot and typically drive my cars to the ground. In 4 months I’ve owned it, I already put 12,000 miles and fortunately zero issues, it’s swerving capabilities are still good, I enjoy the assisted driving, the sound from the speakers are clean and clear. It’s actually pretty quiet.
