Dealer Notes
The 2026 Ford Explorer Active 4WD blends three-row versatility with modern tech and all-weather confidence, making it a strong fit for families who want space without moving into a full-size SUV. This Explorer emphasizes balanced performance, intuitive infotainment, and practical comfort features designed for daily driving, road trips, and light adventure use across changing seasons.
This vehicle is well suited for buyers who need flexible passenger and cargo capacity while still valuing easy maneuverability and cabin comfort. Families with growing kids, commuters who face winter conditions, and drivers who regularly carry sports gear or travel equipment benefit from the Explorers roomy third row, split-folding seats, and thoughtful storage solutions that support everyday usability without feeling oversized.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering smooth acceleration and confident passing power. The 4WD system enhances traction on snow, gravel, or wet pavement while maintaining efficient highway behavior. The Explorer has a strong reputation for manageable long-term maintenance, with widely available parts and service intervals that align well with typical ownership expectations.
Safety systems focus on prevention and driver awareness rather than complexity. Features such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping support, and stability control work together to reduce common collision risks. Front, side, and knee airbags provide layered protection, while available crash-test data from independent agencies helps buyers evaluate real-world safety performance with confidence.
The Active trim includes the Equipment Group 200A and Active Comfort Package, adding features that enhance daily driving rather than just appearance. Heated captains chairs, tri-zone climate control, power driver seating, and a hands-free connected cabin improve comfort on long trips. The large touchscreen with navigation, wireless smartphone integration, and FordPass Connect 5G supports seamless media, mapping, and remote vehicle access.
When compared with alternatives like the Toyota Grand Highlander and Honda Pilot, the Explorer stands out for its responsive turbocharged engine and refined on-road feel. It offers competitive interior space with a more engaging driving character than some rivals, while still delivering the ride comfort and technology features buyers expect in this segment.
Shoppers often ask how trims differ, and the Active trim focuses on comfort and value rather than performance tuning. Safety systems like automatic braking are designed to intervene early, not replace driver control. Packages such as Active Comfort primarily enhance seating and climate usability. With 4WD and a strong turbo engine, the Explorer is capable for winter driving and light towing while remaining comfortable for long-distance travel.

Transmission
By Bruce Potter | on Monday, February 27, 2023
Transmission broke at 17000 took 3 months to get parts for rebuild, defrost strips coming off rear glass, replaced , fix rear camera twice, cracked catalytic converter left side, be nice car if I could keep it out of shop. So warranty has covered everything. Fun to drive, impressed with performance.… - 1.0
Another hacked together vehicle at a high cost
By AGlover | on Tuesday, July 05, 2022
Started with paneling popping off at Less than 5k miles, then the window became stuck in the down position, 2 hours at the dealer from them to just get it back up and tell us the post won’t be in for awhile, now the radio isn’t working. Every mechanical malfunction came with Parts that were scorching hot to the touch when trying to troubleshoot. It’s at 11500 miles, owned since March and have regretted it since.… - 4.0
3rd Explorer and still happy
By NoHo | on Wednesday, September 08, 2021
This is my third Explorer and I still love it. I drive about 25,000 a year with a heavy foot and typically drive my cars to the ground. In 4 months I’ve owned it, I already put 12,000 miles and fortunately zero issues, it’s swerving capabilities are still good, I enjoy the assisted driving, the sound from the speakers are clean and clear. It’s actually pretty quiet.…
